There seems to be a common misconception about blogs in 2026, and it goes like this: “blogs are soooo 2006!”
It’s true that blogs reached their peak around 2006 when it felt like everyone had a food, travel or pet blog, but that doesn’t mean they’re officially outdated or old-school.
In fact, now more than ever, adding a blog to your website might be the best decision you make for your business.

But why should I add a blog to my website?
If you've found yourself asking, do I really need a blog in 2026? Then I want you to notice that I said “add a blog to my website” and not simply, why should I create a blog.
There’s a difference between a website as a blog and a website for your business with a blog included in your business strategy.
The reason I believe many people hold this common misconception is that they think a blog is only for influencers or dedicated bloggers who have made a living from their blog.
Let me tell you, you don’t need to be a professional blogger to have a blog on your website, you don’t even need to be the best writer in the world, either.
The beauty of blog writing is being able to use your own voice and turn of phrase, specifically so people can relate to you and imagine you talking to them directly.
For example, as a Geordie (someone from Newcastle in the UK, for anyone reading this who is not from the UK!) I might sprinkle in a few Geordie words in my blog writing just to add a certain level of familiarity.
But the number one reason why you should add a blog to your website is for SEO purposes, that’s Search Engine Optimisation, basically how Google and other search engines find you.
Do I Really Need a Blog in 2026? Yes, if you want to improve your SEO
By adding a blog to your website, you’re essentially giving yourself a massive head start against your competition in the race to be found on Google (search engines).
There’s only so much information you can put on the main pages of your website where you can use keywords related to your business.
That information generally doesn’t change much since your business doesn’t change.
However, by adding a blog, you’re basically expanding your reach and giving yourself the opportunity to talk more in depth about your business, your services, your products and anything else related to your business.
By talking about those things, you are demonstrating your expertise and authority on those subjects.
Ask yourself this question: Which person is more likely to make sales, the one who builds trust by answering client questions and solving their problems or the one who has a basic website and no further information available?
I know who I’d rather give my money to.

What Is SEO?
Well, that’s a loaded question!
First of all, I want to tell you that I am not an SEO expert (yet!), but I do understand the fundamental ideas relating to good SEO.
SEO = Search Engine Optimisation.
This is how you inform search engines, and now we need to include AI platforms, about your business by making sure you use clear wording that explains what you do.
You’ll hear people talking about keywords and phrases when discussing SEO, and there are so many keyword generators or tools to analyse keywords that it can be overwhelming.
It’s like I already mentioned, you need to make sure you add specific words and phrases to your website that tell the system reading your website what you’re all about.
For example, I build custom Wix websites, so I’m definitely going to want to use that phrase somewhere on my website, as well as wording such as Wix Website Designer, custom Wix website designer, and it pays to be even more specific by saying custom Wix website designer for travel brands.
Additionally, if I’m location-based, then I will say Wix website designer in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
You might add those phrases to each page of your website, but if you’ve only got 5 pages on your website, you’ll still be limited.
Quick Tip: Don’t “keyword stuff”, which means just adding words and phrases related to your business for the sake of it, because you think you’re adding more opportunities for Google to find you. Search engines these days are way more sophisticated and can spot when someone is doing this, which can actually harm your ability to be recommended on a search engine.
That’s exactly why adding a blog to your website is so beneficial.
In each blog post, you can organically weave keywords throughout the article that relate to your service or product without it being too obvious.
Share Your Knowledge With The World!
This is your time to shine!
Gone are the days when a blog was just an online diary of your day, or your pet’s day.
Blogs are the new magazine article ok, so make sure you’re providing value.
Of course, you can still add personal experiences and stories if they’re adding to the overall value of your post, but if you’re just adding them for the sake of it or boosting your word count, then cut them.
In fact, using your personal experiences and how you solved your own problems or a client’s problem is a fantastic way to show the reader how your knowledge and skills fixed something in a real-world way.
By creating content that is valuable, trustworthy and informative, you are already ahead of the game when it comes to Google pushing your content.
Google aims to find the most relevant answer to a prompt written into its search box; that’s it.
We can overcomplicate the topic of SEO and blogs, but ultimately, if you’re providing answers and helping people, then you’ve already got the basics covered.
By being consistent and posting regular blog content, you’re giving yourself the best chance of being found on Google or AI.
